Nicole passes away just weeks before a new unit is opened in her name

It was with great sadness that we learnt that Nicole Dryburgh, one of King's inspiring fundraisers, passed away last weekend.

In 2006, Nicole began fundraising to purchase the specialist equipment needed to open a paediatric neuro-rehabilitation suite on Lion Ward, the ward where she was treated.

Over the past 4 years, Nicole has organised many fundraising events from sponsored silences and poetry evenings to chocolate parties and music concerts. She even abseiled down the side of the Golden Jubilee Wing on the King's Open Day in 2008.

Nicole was an inspiration to everyone she met, and often attended King's fundraising events to passionately encourage others to get involved in fundraising.

Like every good fundraiser she always said, 'I never take no for an answer!'

In 2008, she was voted Britain's most inspirational fundraiser and has raised over £43,000 for our Charity.

Thanks to Nicole's amazing fundraising achievements the paediatric neuro-rehabilitation suite, stocked with the latest neuro-rehabilitation equipment, painted in Nicole's favourite colours and decorated with artwork of her favourite sweets, will be officially opened on 8 June 2010 and will care for children just like Nicole.

The paediatric neuro-rehabilitation suite is to be aptly named 'Nicole's Sweet'.

Nicole had such courage and grace and will be sadly missed by everyone at King's.
