Race information: A national institution, the Virgin London Marathon is the chance to fulfil a life long ambition. A gruelling 24-week training schedule ending in a 26.2 mile run through the famous landmarks in London, the marathon is an experience like no other.  Over 30,000 runners take part in the marathon each year and the streets are lined with supporters, it truly is one of the most exciting and emotional experiences in a runner’s career. As there are so many applications, the marathon operates a ballot system. The ballot opens in April, and runners are chosen and the winners announced in October. Even if you are not a runner, the marathon is a fantastic spectator event and you can come along and support the King’s runners!
